Entering the works of Leo Cleymans is a magical
experience. An important part of his paintings
is inspired and sparked by his inner emotion and
his ability to open his mind to reality. He is
obviously a painter in the true sense of the word,
someone who with all available pictorial means
such as paint, palette knife, paintbrush and canvas
first relates to himself what he sees, what he
loves and what fascinates him. Hence it goes without
saying that in his pictorial oeuvre four recurring
themes may be considered : the seasons, the city,
the harbour and music.
The
luminosity of his scenes is largely the reflection
of his zest for live, of his need for pictorial
expression and of challenges referring to a growing
mastery of the pictorial means and a likewise
growing self-awareness that goes with it.
